Mutual Aid Fund

Long ago, communities set up  Mutual Aid Foundations to take care of each other in times of need.  The Shala began our our own version of a Mutual Aid Guild back in 2005 with offerings of special classes, kirtans, concerts, dance parties, homemade clothing, arts and crafts. If you are unable to attend any of these events, but would like to contribute, you can drop off or mail a donation at any time, or use paypal for a donation. You can notate a specific person you want the donation to go to. Other options are providing a service, groceries, a house cleaning, anything that might be helpful in these times of need. Currently, the recipients of the Mutual Aid Fund are: Meaghan Gannett, John Conely and Diane Wilson who are all in need of help with medical bills.

Participants will learn about: the benefits of yoga for vulnerable populations; the core needs of specific populations; safe, compact and portable asana sequences; new tools for improved communication; appropriate boundaries and touch and much more. The training is dynamic,
participatory and fun.

Our training is NASW approved for Continuing Education Contact Hours for social workers, and yoga teachers may receive Yoga Alliance continuing education credits. You do not need to be a registered yoga teacher for the training, but basic yoga knowledge and experience is important.

Street Yoga is a nationally recognized non-profit organization that teaches yoga, mindfulness and compassionate communication to youth and families struggling with homelessness, poverty, abuse, addiction, trauma, and neurological/psychiatric issues, so that they can grow
stronger, heal from past traumas, and create for themselves lives that are inspired, safe, and joyful. Street Yoga started in Portland, Oregon in 2002 and now holds weekly classes at over 23 sites.

Tej began in the year 2000, the fruit of a deep prayer. It has taken 9 years to make the dream a reality. My intention is to manifest uplifting, positive, energy-filled artwork and images to help enliven people's lives. To remember the sacred and connect with the heart when ever possible is a powerful act. I hope that this art might serve as a reminder toward that remembering, offering or longing.

Asha has been practicing yoga, meditation and Siddha Yoga for 15 years. Determined to find a way to marry her passion for yoga / shakti with her skills as an artist / designer – tej art was born.

"One thing I really enjoy doing is designing custom pieces for people. I love taking what colors, mantras, deities and what ever else inspires them and putting it together in a beautiful way. These pieces can have a powerful result. They have the power/shakti to shift the energy in the room and effect the way you feel as a result."
