Led classes with refinement in preludes, asana, pranayama, etc. Shadow Yoga, drawing on classic yoga texts, as well as principles of traditional medicine and yogic philosophy, is a challenging, effective method of Hatha yoga. The foundation of the Shadow Yoga practice are three series of movements which produce a state of capability and awareness in each student, so that they may gain greater benefit from the hatha yoga practice. In this class we work with the preludes (the three set series), asana, pranayama, and a bit of yoga philosophy. The immersion format is conducive to progress: even in a month, one can see the benefits of consistent practice. Lita Batho is currently the only approved teacher of Shadow yoga living in the Pacific Northwest.

Foundational Hatha Yoga and Shadow yoga techniques and skills. Shadow yoga is a practice which includes a greater vocabulary of preparatory activities than many modern yoga practices. Drawing on classic hatha yoga texts, traditional South Indian martial arts, dance and medicine, and principles of nature, the practice supports the development of health, clarity, and strength through awakening natural movement and intuition. The first step in this system is to learn basic warm ups and standing sequences through which you will gain facility with the wide spectrum of asanas and activities available in yoga practice.
This class is open to all; especially beginners and those who have practiced yoga before but are new to Shadow Yoga. The immersion format allows for effective learning, over the course of one month, and you can expect to finish the class with tools you can continue to use for the months ahead.

Vi means variety and nyasa means placement. Like a magnet, the Vinyasa practice pulls one into the present moment and brings awareness to our place, our actions, and their effects. It is a beautiful practice that unites movement and breath, body and mind. Immersing yourself in a daily practice with a teacher is a great way to inspire your personal practice at home.
This immersion will focus on the sequences that are born from the sun salutation. The form and discipline of the practice act as a container and within is the creativity that is supported by this form. One’s own practice can be very individual and spontaneous once the framework is established.
Drop-ins and Partials with Sweethome's consent.

Level 2 Shadow Yoga classes focus more on cultivating the intelligence of the body and the mind. As the body gets stronger from feet to the core, emotional stability is provided and the inner intelligence appears. For that end, we will study the flow of the movements with the breath and the application of the bandhas to the poses. We will develop a deeper understanding of the prelude forms and the principles of this system as taught by Zhander Remete. Each class ends with a 10-minute long question& answer session.
Prerequisite: Completion of Level 1 immersion or knowledge of one Shadow Yoga prelude. No Drop-ins. Partials can be arranged on first week of Immersion. For questions and more info contact Defne.

In the evening immersion classes we continue the study of Shadow Yoga preludes. Moving with an awareness on the breath and with the application of the bandhas will naturally leads to stillness. Stillness in the body gives rise to a neutral state of mind. Clarity and wisdom appear as the natural consequences of this process. The movement leading to stillness and stillness leading to movement, as taught by Zhander Remete, will be our focus in these classes as the day turns into night.
Prerequisite: Knowledge of one Shadow Yoga prelude or at least 1-year of consistent yoga practice. Drop-ins allowed first week of Immersion only, class cards may be used with Immersion registration. For questions and more info contact Defne.
