Alexandria Weinbrecht

Alexandria has been a student of Matt Huish's for almost three years and has been part of the Shala's teacher training program. She also studies with Matt's teacher, Zhander Remete, the founder of the Shadow school of yoga. Her work with the Yoga Shala grows out of her deep love and appreciation for the entire Shala community. She has been on staff with the Shala since April 2007, working to help in the Shala's reorganization efforts and to develop and implement a high-impact marketing strategy. Her primary role is to help the Shala share its unique offerings and excellence in teaching with the extended Portland community.

Alexandria is relatively new to yoga, but she has spent almost 30 years studying psychology, philosophy, and doing her own 'human homework.' She received her B.A. from Columbia University, majoring in philosophy and religious studies, and holds an M.A. as well as a Ph.D. in the same subject from Princeton. But she has been working since she was 13 years old and has had several different 'careers' in her lifetime, including being the very first female installer/repairperson for Bell Systems who ever made it through climbing school! Her experience includes being a stable hand and trail guide, waitressing, many years in the telecommunications field, working and running small non-profit organizations, and years running her own business as a professional editor. Besides working with the Shala, she has her own business, Euippe Productions, and is writing a book called The Tyranny of Indifference while also shooting a documentary film on the same subject.
